Get the iPod touch if you want to run the latest iOS apps but don't want to pay more than $200 for the privilege. A cheap phone would probably give you a better overall experience, though, especially in battery life.

The fifth-generation iPod Touch is unequivocally the best iPod ever made, but at $300 it'll be a hard sell for many. For that price, you could buy a Vita, 3DS (maybe both if you're a resilient e-shopper), a Nexus 7, or a Kindle Fire HD. But if you're looking for an ultra-portable media device that can do it all, this is probably still your best bet (shy of a flagship phone). The thin body makes it perfectly portable where other options are not, and the new camera upgrade could make it a replacement for your point-and-shoot. Whether its multitude of adequate features validates the price is a matter of opinion, but you could do a lot worse with your cash.
